Reliance Partner’s Mexico Cargo Hijacking Data Portal is a tool to help nearshoring executives, journalists, international logistics professionals and researchers analyze roadway logistics risk in Mexico. We compile, consolidate, and crunch data from Mexico’s federal government’s National Public Security System in order to provide the first and only open source data portal on cargo hijackings in Mexico.

Key Findings 2024
- The overwhelming majority of cargo truck hijackings in Mexico take place in the industrial zone surrounding Mexico City.
- In 2024, Mexico State and Puebla accounted for 80% of the official tally of hijackings in Mexico.
- Mexico’s six northern border states accounted for just 1.3% of the official tally of violent cargo truck hijackings in Mexico in 2024.
- Nuevo Leon is the border state with the highest number of recorded hijackings. Recorded hijackings in Nuevo Leon increased by 25% in 2024.
- Two other states to watch are Oaxaca and Morelos. Hijackings in Oaxaca increased by 94% in 2024 while violent truck robberies in Morelos were up by 9%.
- Data compiled by ai27 shows that Jalisco, Queretaro, Guanajuato and Veracruz are also hotspots for hijacking in Mexico.
